Fruit & Nut Breakfast Bars

Hi readers! For my first post I want to share some of my favorite on-the-go breakfast options. It’s not so easy to sit down every day and enjoy a balanced breakfast like an egg white omelet with a slice of sprouted bread and a side of fruit. While I encourage everyone to consume fewer packaged foods and more fresh foods as much as possible, there are days when your alarm doesn’t go off on time and you need to grab something as you’re rushing out the door. On those days, you may be inclined to grab one of the many breakfast bars that are readily available on supermarket shelves. But before you choose just any bar, take a look at some of my favorites, which can be enjoyed with something quick and easy, like a banana or low-fat Greek yogurt.

If you’re into granola and super food goodness, Two Mom’s in the Raw granola bars may be for you! The bars are all organic, non-GMO, and gluten free. My favorite flavor is the Gojiberry Nut Bar. The perfect way to describe these bars is fruity and nutty goodness with a dose of healthy fats and protein. An added bonus to the Gojiberry bar is the “fountain of youth” benefits of goji berries. The berries are filled with antioxidants, which work to fight off cancer, prevent heart disease, and lower cholesterol. Per serving (1 oz) these bars have 130 calories, 9 grams total fat, 0.5 g saturated fat, 13 g carbohydrate, 2 g fiber, 11 g sugar, 2 g protein, 30 mg sodium. But beware – there are two servings per bar, which means you need to double the Nutrition Facts.

If you’re a fan of oatmeal for breakfast but don’t have time for a hot bowl of this cholesterol-lowering good stuff, Bobo’s Oat Bars are a delicious choice. These bars are natural, handmade, non-GMO breakfast bars with a choice of gluten-free bars as well. Bobo’s Oat Bars are nothing short of nutritious and delicious, but they are quite dense. Per serving (1.5 oz) these bars have 180 calories, 6 g total fat, 1.5 g saturated fat, 29 g carbohydrate, 3 g fiber, 9 g sugar, 3 g protein, 20 mg sodium. Like the Two Mom’s bars, these have two servings per bar, so if you’re watching your weight, you may want to have half the bar with a hard-boiled egg and save the other half of the bar for later.

Another great breakfast bar is the Kind Bar. Kind Bars are whole nut and fruit bars filled with healthy fats and a great flavor. The bars are available in over 18 flavors (Pomegranate Blueberry Pistachio is my favorite!). Per serving (~1.5 oz) these bars have 190 calories, 13 g total fat, 1.5 g saturated fat, 20 g carbohydrate, 3 g fiber, 12 g sugar, 3 g protein, 20 mg sodium. Unlike the other two bars, these only contain one serving, so if you’re on the run, you’ll want to grab one of these bars with an apple or a banana. They make a wonderful way to get your day – and metabolism – going!
