A New Dried Fruit – Plum Amazins

February 20, 2012

I love fruit. I prefer fresh fruit when it’s in season, but when options are limited (like winter in New York), I count on dried fruit to help me reach my three servings of fruit per day. I love dried cranberries and golden raisins. And now I have a new dried fruit to add to the mix – Plum Amazins! Thanks to the folks at Sunsweet (and their Amazin care package!) I had the opportunity to taste these tiny pieces of dried plums and they are definitely Nutritioulicious!

Sunsweet Plum Amazins

While they taste very similar to dried cranberries and raisins, they’re nutrition facts are slightly different. According to Sunsweet, compared to the same serving size of dried cranberries and raisins, Plum Amazins have about 50% more fiber, 45% less sugar, 19% fewer calories, and higher amounts of antioxidants. Here are the nutrition facts for you to compare:

Plum Amazins (40 g serving): 100 calories, 26 g carbohydrate, 3 g fiber, 13 g sugar, 1 g protein, 290 mg potassium

Dried Cranberries (40 g): 140 calories, 35 g carbohydrate, 2 g fiber, 29 g sugar, 0 g protein, 25 mg potassium

Raisins (40 g): 120 calories, 32 g carbohydrate, 1.5 g fiber, 24 g sugar, 1 g protein, 300 mg potassium

Like other dried fruit, Plum Amazins are great sprinkled on salads, yogurt, and cereal. They’re also a tasty addition to a trail mix of other dried fruit and nuts. You can also add them to cookies and other baked goods.

Have you tried Plum Amazins yet?

P.S. So many of you have asked where you can find Plum Amazins. Look for them in a canister (as in the picture above) in supermarkets, or you can buy them from the Sunsweet store.

  1. Can’t wait to try them. Have been looking in stores for them and they are not in stock yet. Enjoy!

  2. I love prunes and have recently tried the Plum Amazins. I sprinkle them in my salads and add them into the wraps I pack myself for lunch. I still pack the individually wrapped prunes (Sunsweet Ones) in my lunch because they’re like candy! I can’t wait to make a chicken salad and put the Plum Amazins in that too!!

  3. The PlumAmazins sound delicious – and nutrutious. It would be great to have a healthier alternative to raisins or craisins. Any idea how I could get a sample? How about information on where to find them in stores? Barbara

  4. LOVE these! I tried them for the first time about a week ago on my oatmeal and they were great! I already know they’ll be great in salads and yogurt too, as well as other dishes.

  5. I recently bought these at a Rite Aid. They are great. Have gone to few others and nothing. I have heard that CVS has them, but I haven’t been there yet.
