Texas Gets It Right!
August 23, 2009
On the heels of my recent posts about healthy school lunches, I saw some news about school lunch in Texas. “Lunch ladies no longer serving up fried foods to students” is about how elementary, middle, and high schools will no longer be serving fried foods, candy, and junk food. And on top of that, teachers are not allowed to use candy rewards, students can no longer sell candy and other sugary treats at fundraisers, and vending machine visits for soda and candy are out of the question.
It’s so good to know that some schools take nutrition and prevention of childhood obesity seriously. Now let’s get the rest of the country to make these changes!
